Day 289: Try A Quince

It's hard to find new fruits and vegetables to try when your this far into a year long project, but I seemed to strike gold today while I was in the produce section. This yellowish fruit caught my eye. It looked like a hybrid of a lemon, an apple, and a pear, and it was called a quince. I bought it at once and took it home to try. I was excited because it looked rather appetizing, but I quickly learned that I was mistaken after the first bite. It was awfully bitter and dry, almost like a crab apple. I had to wash down the aftertaste and dispose of the fruit. It may have been a terrible taste, but at least it was a new one.

Day 175: Persimmon

I wasn't too into it but it wasn't too bad either. Persimmon is a fruit that looks a lot like a tomato but tastes a bit more bitter than its counterpart. I bought one and offered some to a couple of friends of mine, but nobody would go near it. I, being the brave and willing soul that I am, dove head first into the persimmon to find out that it's not very good. I'm starting to notice that most of these exotic fruits and veggies usually aren't that great. It was a lot like a tomato, just...different. I don't know how to explain it. If your curious then you should pick one up and try it, that is unless your too chicken. We all know my friends are.

Day 127: Solo Papaya

Kevin loves Walmart

The solo papaya is the most common type of papaya and apparently its also really tasty. Well, thats what this one website says. I picked myself up a solo to try because I was at a Walmart and I needed a challenge to try. I asked the employee that was stocking some produce if he had any exotic fruits that I could eat. He showed me the papaya, which looked a lot like an overgrown pear. So I bought it for $4.87 (which sucks) and took it back to Kevin's house to eat. Kevin, David and Alan had gotten pizzas and were busy cooking those while I diced up the fruit. It was a smelly fruit, like really smelly. Like almost a mild vomit scent, which kept Kevin, David and Alan away from trying it. Everything about this plant seemed unappetizing and just about barfed when I ate one of the seeds because David dared me. I got around to eating some of the overpriced and oversized fruit, and yeah, it sucked. I didn't like it at all. It didn't taste as bad as it smelled, but it was pretty terrible. So I threw that puppy away like a good American!
