Day 127: Solo Papaya

Kevin loves Walmart

The solo papaya is the most common type of papaya and apparently its also really tasty. Well, thats what this one website says. I picked myself up a solo to try because I was at a Walmart and I needed a challenge to try. I asked the employee that was stocking some produce if he had any exotic fruits that I could eat. He showed me the papaya, which looked a lot like an overgrown pear. So I bought it for $4.87 (which sucks) and took it back to Kevin's house to eat. Kevin, David and Alan had gotten pizzas and were busy cooking those while I diced up the fruit. It was a smelly fruit, like really smelly. Like almost a mild vomit scent, which kept Kevin, David and Alan away from trying it. Everything about this plant seemed unappetizing and just about barfed when I ate one of the seeds because David dared me. I got around to eating some of the overpriced and oversized fruit, and yeah, it sucked. I didn't like it at all. It didn't taste as bad as it smelled, but it was pretty terrible. So I threw that puppy away like a good American!

Day 126: BB gun

Yup, thats my butt

This was bound to happen eventually. Whether it be because of the project, or just because I tend to make stupid decisions, this was going to happen to me someday. I let my friend shoot me in the butt with a BB gun. He just got it and we were shooting things from across the room and blowing in to smithereens. After a couple of practice shots, I found myself standing next to the shrapnel that was once a soda can. I had my back facing David and my butt exposed. And then, BANG. It didn't hurt at all for the first half second, but then I ran around the basement like a fool trying to outrun the pain. It hurt and it was funny, so it was a win/win. I got a baby welt from it, but nothing too serious.
This penny got messed up

Day 125: Environmental Colorado

Went to a job interview in Boulder. It for this place called Environmental Colorado. They are those people that prey on helpless patrons of the Pearl St. Mall. They ask you to sign petitions and donate to help their cause. Granted, the causes that they support are good ones, but the way they get donations is a bit iffy. My friend Cody and I got guilt tripped by one of the street recruiters into a donation. I only did a one time payment of $10, but Cody got conned into making a monthly payment. Thats $120 bucks a year, sweet jebus thats alotta cash. Then we talked to another street recruiter from another company. They were trying to gather donations for starving children, and I guess business was bad cause this guy was so desperate to get us to donate.  He looked a lot like the blonde guy from Dude Where's My Car?.  He wouldn't let us go. I kept saying that we weren't interested and that we didn't have any money. But then he'd combat it by saying something like "Dude, sponsoring children totally gets you chicks" and then he'd hold up an open hand for a high five. Twenty minutes went by and he was still arguing for us to give him money and Cody looked like he was about to cave in. He was checking his bank funds on his phone to see if there was any money to spare. This kid is broke as all hell and he was so close to giving everything that he had left to some random guy with a clipboard, thats major karma points. We eventually got out of that uncomfortable situation and went on with our day. After seeing exactly what the job entails, I decided that it wasn't for me. Call me a wimp, but I don't want to get rejected by 99% of the people I talk to for 8 hours a day. I asked the guy how many people say yes just out of curiosity. He said that on a good day, 3 or 4 people. Thats insanity. So I guess this challenge is that I supported the environment by donating my 10 bucks. I hope they can make some positive changes with that.
This is the kind of vibe I was getting

Here's some links to their sites if you feel so inclined to support these wonderful causes without the guilt trip: http://www.environmentcolorado.org/

Day 124: Aboriginal Dot Drawings

Crazy coral
Here's a weird one for ya. As you may know, its finals week right now and I've been busy with a lot of school and non-school activities. So I haven't had that much time to spend on this little project of mine. And it seems like all the free time that I have, I spend on skating or biking around. And today was epically busy cause I played a round of golf after school with Joey. This is where I learned that I'm really sucky at the sport and decided to add golfing to my always growing list of things I cant do.

So I was skating with my friend Gerke today, and we went back to his apartment to stock up on treats. I was looking around his flat and was amazed by his vibrant salt water fish tanks and random pieces of art on the walls. The fishes are incredible and its pretty obvious that he spends way too much time messing with them. Buts its a beautiful hobby and makes for a great conversation piece. Speaking of conversation pieces, I was talking to Gerke bout the art that he had hung up. One of the pieces was what he called an aboriginal dot drawing. It was just like a normal picture, but it was made up of tiny little dots. And so, because I have no time this week for demanding challenges, I decided to try my very own aboriginal dot drawing. Here's how they turned out.

Not as creepy
This guy is so creepy

Day 123: Freezing Point

Here's how it went down baby
Mouse and I tried this experiment where you can apparently freeze a cup of water within seconds. All you need is some ice with salt sprinkled on it and a small cup of water that is set in the middle of the ice cubes. You let the small cup sit in the ice till it is colder than freezing. The salt is supposed to lower the freezing point and so when you agitate the cup of water, it should instantly freeze over. I don't really know why or how this works, and thats probably why this didn't work, but we tried anyways. We set up the little experiment and watched a Jim Carrey movie while we waited for the water to chill. Then we got super disappointed when the water refused to change it's consistency after I taped on it. Pfft, stupid water.

Day 122: Cook Stuffed Peppers

I was getting buck wild with the cooking and creating yesterday. I decided that I wanted to cook up some ground beef and then add in whatever I felt would taste good as I went along. I tossed in some diced green peppers and taco mix. Then I threw in some salt and pepper cause it makes me look like I know what I'm doing when I do that. Then I cut up some tomato slices and some banana peppers. From there I basically made a double sided toastada with what ever was left in the fridge.
Too much good

Engineering the pepper rack
It turned out pretty alright, but things got tastier once my dad got home and we began to make stuffed poblano peppers. We stuffed the peppers with some beer battered chicken (courtesy of my dad), cheese and lime juice. I made a little pepper support system with shiskabob sticks and placed them on a cooking rack. We cooked them till the cheese was nice and melty. Long story short, we made some damn delicious stuffed peppers. Boom!

Day 121: Meditative Breathing

Yeah, I liked the hypnosis and meditation challenges so much that I've been looking up a little bit more about them and I found this thing called meditative breathing. For the most part, Its a whole lot like the hypnosis. You sit there listening to headphones while you relax. But this time, there was a repetitive drum beat and it was my job to breath in and out evenly over the count of four. So, my breathing is calm and slow, and this guy is talking me into a state of relaxation. It didn't work as well as the hypnosis challenge, but I did feel pretty relaxed after it was finished, but thats what happens when I lay down anyways.

You try it:
